Right before you start using the generator set, it is necessary that you follow the instructions that are specified. You also need to keep it in mind that there is proper ventilation hence it is necessary that you place the unit in an open area. 

Also, check for the oil and coolant levels regularly and along with that, you should run the generator once in a while so that it circulates oil throughout the engine. Recharging the battery should also be kept in mind.
